After two editions, in 2026 Tepec Trail will move location to the Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Biosphere Reserve (Unesco site); a semi desert landscape with the most biological diversity in the whole world. The course starts and finishes in the town of Zapotitlan Salinas, famous for its 2,000-year-old traditional fossil salt mining techniques and its striking landscape. The 35K and 1.800 meters of elevation gain it’s also very diverse. With hard technical trials and also some fast dirt roads. It can be considered as two loops. The first 20K loop the runners will face two climbs; first to the summit of Cutha peak where they will find an archeological site, and another one to discover some unique basalt rock formations along with endemic columnar cacti, limestone formations, and ancient marine fossils. The second loop is the main challenge, climbing all the way up to the Chacatecas peak, which can be even harder on a hot sunny day.
